Frank Saito Papers These papers consist of letters, military service records, notebooks, subject files, church conference records, religious educational material, church newsletters, church annual reports, pamphlets, photographs, and an audio-taped oral history. Saito was born in Glendale, California and his family sent him to Japan to be educated as a young child. He returned to California for high school; was interned at Rohwer Relocation Center, McGehee, Arkansas; volunteered to serve in the U.S. Military Intelligence Service during World War II; and eventually settled in Chicago. He was an active member of the Lakeside Japanese Christian Church originally in Chicago and now in Skokie. Some of the letters are in Japanese. |
