Shizue and Tadashige Okubo Papers
1918-1995, 8 linear feet

This collection contains letters, notebooks, ledgers, yearbooks, awards, cards, postcards, drawings (pencil, watercolor, and oil), a painting, artifacts, newspaper clippings, magazines and books in English and Japanese (integrated with Library Collection). Shizue Tamura grew up in San Francisco and was interned at Topaz Relocation Center (Utah), and came to Chicago in 1945. Tadashige Okubo was educated in Japan, immigrated to San Francisco, and then came to Chicago. The couple met and married in Chicago. Shizue was a painter and Tadashige was a writer. Highlights of this collection include Tamura Hotel (San Francisco) resident and service ledgers dating from 1918 to 1936, Topaz High School yearbooks, and drawings of Topaz by Shizue.
