Mary and James Numata Collection
1935-1997, 10 linear feet

This collection contains photographs (black & white and color), negatives, photograph albums, slides, panoramic photographs, audiotapes, books, announcements, cards, Heart Mountain Relocation Center (Wyoming) reunion materials, ephemera and photographic equipment. James Numata was an avid photographer from the 1940s to the 1990s. This unique collection provides a rich visual history of over six decades of the Japanese American community in Chicago. Photographic highlights include the Japanese American community in the Hyde Park area of Chicago, Japanese American community businesses and events during resettlement, Chicago Buddhist Church activities and festivals, Chicago attractions such as Lincoln Park and Grant Park, and celebrations such as birthdays and weddings.
